XyzzyB

To understand xyzzyb you really just need to know the history of the word “xyzzy”.

I first heard of xyzzy when my older brother showed me that if you type it into Zork you get an amusing game response.

At the time I thought that this was just a funny aside that was in the game, but it was actually a humorous tribute to the game (Colossal Cave) Adventure. Xyzzy’s true origin is a subject of minor debate.

However xyzzy came about, it has taken on a life of its own and it pops up in many games (from minesweeper to Kingdom of Loathing to the Sims) as a secret code, is a popular placeholder variable with programmers (like foo and bar), and shows up in odd places in many computer programs.

So that’s xyzzy. Now what is xyzzyB? Well B. is my last initial. Xyzzy kind of sounds like Stevie (depending on how you pronounce “xyzzy”), and since StevieB was a online name I had for a time it seemed an appropriate way to make xyzzy sufficiently my own. Sufficiently enough so that the domain wasn’t taken, specifically.
